COPENHAGEN FASHION WEEK : 1.6 Km LONG CATWALK

much-hyped, oversized catwalk failed to make the record books this year

Copenhagen Fashion Week (CFW) ended on Sunday, the 15th aug, after 46 shows and four fairs around the city.

CFW is home to the largest trade show in northern Europe, and the second-largest in the world. Over 2,400 brands were present at the four trade fairs, making Copenhagen the first city where four competing fairs come together at the same time to promote fashion.

According to Wonderful Copenhagen, tourism in Copenhagen makes approximately 30 billion kroner a year, of which 200-300 million kroner stems from the 60,000 fashionistas who descend on CFW. The tourism board wants to make it even more attractive for normal tourists to visit the capital during fashion week in the future, by having even more events for the general public.

One event open for everyone was the challenge to break the Guinness world record for the longest catwalk ever. 220 models strutted down a 1.6km catwalk, along the city’s main shopping street Strøget, in pouring rain.

But although the event cost 2.5 million kroner to stage, this was not enough to get the event into the record books.

A spokesperson for CFW confirmed that they had contacted the Guinness Book of Records, who informed them that they had failed with their record bid due to various technicalities. [pic courtesy Claus starup, details on the copenhagen post]
